Chico Mann...
Chico Mann is no new comer to the New York Music scene as he's been playing lead guitar for one of my favorite Afrobeat groups "The Antibalas". Chico Mann's Afrobeat roots are clearly present with a flare of classic electro sounds that only old school Casio keys can produce. He's has a few EP's (Manifest Tone Vols.1-3) as well as a handful of singles. I was able to catch one of his live performances on his brief west coast visit well over a year ago and I was blown away. He clearly sets a great vibe and make you move with his vibrant classic yet new sounds. I look forward to his next west coast visit, as he's hinted that it may be some time in the near future.

Fixed Gear...
There has been a lot of hoop-la about fixed geared bike these days and some see it as new phenomena. However fixed gear bikes have been around well over 100 years now. Also fixed gear track bike racing preempts automobile racing by a long shot and even deemed Major Taylor the first African American to become world champion in the history of competitive sport racing. So there is a lot of history behind these bikes. I myself have yet to ride a fixed gear bike or "Fixie" for short but recently it has gained more of my respect. Even some of the BMX companies like Volume, Subrosa and SE have jumped in and put out fixie frame and complete bikes. Although my love for BMX can not be changed, I look forward to building a Fixie pretty soon. So I'll keep you posted on my new venture as it begins.

Rey Fresco....
Rey Fresco hails from Ventura Cali and have generated quite a buzz on the indie music scene. These guys produce a unique sound that is comparable to no other band out right now. Around this time last year I saw them perform at the Pasadena Jazz Institute and was blown away by their talented blend of music.

Classixx...

These guys are some new comers to the LA music scene and have really grabbed much attention and buzz for all the right reasons. This LA based DJ\Producing duo have recently become one of my favorites. My first taste was their remixes of Phoenix's latest hit "Lizstomaina" and The Ting Tings "Shut up and let me go". This past weekend my boy and I took a trip to the infamous Circus Disco in Hollywood to attend day 1 of this years Freestyle Sessions. The venue was packed with B-Boys, Poppers and Lockers from around the world. There were many familiar faces and new faces to this dance community right long with some of the worlds best.

T&C Surf Designs...
This past Sunday I went to my local swap meet to browse around for crap I might like and stumbled across an old T&C Surf Wood & water rage video game cartridge for the Nintendo entertainment system. When I was a kid growing up in the mid to late 80's T&C t-shirts were all the rage. I clearly remember begging my mom to buy me these t-shirts when we would go to Millers Outpost. Although T&C still exists today they have yet to reissue these for reasons unknown to me. I do know that "Da Boys" Thrillia Gorillia, Joe Cool, Tiki man and Kool Kats were created by an aritist by the name of Steve Nazar who is still around. I found his website www.stevenazar.com and low and behold he has some of his original sketches of "Da Boys" for sale. So if anybody who knows me well, knows I have a thing for 80's nostalgia crap. So you know this will be on my things to look out for list.

Mayer Hawthorne - Maybe So Maybe No...
Mayer Hawthorne - Maybe So, Maybe No from Stones Throw on Vimeo.
Mayer Hawthorne is one of the latest additions to the Stone Throw line up of amazing talent. This guy comes from Ann Arbor Michigan where he was known as DJ Haircut and caught the ear of Stones Throw label owner \ Producer Peanut Butter Wolf with his throw back Motown sound. This is the video (which features LA's very own Do-Over Sundays and Venice Beach) of his second single from his upcoming album Strange Arrangements due out September. Don't sleep on this one, as he's been making his way through the underground music community.

X-Games 2009...
I had the opportunity to finally take my family to see the X-Games live this past weekend and I have to admit I had a blast. I have always wanted to attend since they been held in LA for a while now. After making our way into the press only section while the street skating event was going on, we were able to watch Nyjah Huston and Gold medal winner P-Rod tear it up. Another definite highlight of the event was watching Jaime Bestwick take the gold on the BMX vert event. I was thoroughly impressed by the way the event was handled, it was super organized and the staffers were friendly. I will defintiely return to see th 2010 games if they are in LA again.

Quantic...
Yet again Will Quantic has flexed his musical genius muscles. This gifted producer has once again shown that he can lay some sick Latin flavored tracks. He indeed is a music heavy Weight in my books...

Treasure Fingers

Man this guy is something else, when I first heard his "Across The Dance Floor" a while back I was an instant fan. Going through my MP3's on my work PC I found a mix from last winter that I totally slept on. Although some may say I'm a little late, this is one you need to hear.

TRON Legacy...
I've been waitng for a while for this since I caught wind of it last year and it looks great. Rumors have it that Daft Punk will be composing the musical score to the film. On July 21, 2009, several movie-related websites posted they had received via mail a pair of "Flynn's Arcade" golden coins along with a flash drive. Its content was an animated gif image that showed css code lines. Four of them were put together and part of the code was cracked, revealing the urls to Flynnlives.com and homeoftron.com. This looks promising...

Be-With-Me...
I came across this beautiful animated short "Beneath the rubber tree" by Hanna Abi-Hanna layed over a super dope beat by Vinroc a while back. This one really hits my heart on a soft spot especially after the loss of my Grandmother and even more recently my Tio Jose.

Re-Edits...
Lately I've been on the hunt for good Re-Edits of old songs. I've came across many butchered classics that made me sick to my stomach but there are a few that I came across that were worthy of posting. So here is one to start. Its an excellent re-edit of the Rolling Stones "Under My Thumb". ***The Youtube videos are the original song and the click here link is the download to the re-edit***
